Two Sides member, Lecta, continues to innovate in sustainable packaging with the expansion of its EraCup Natural paperboard, a high-performance solution designed for a wide range of food service applications.
Originally developed for paper cups, EraCup Natural has evolved into a versatile solid bleached board (SBB) suitable for cups, bowls, trays and other takeaway packaging formats. Its performance and adaptability make it an ideal solution for today’s growing demand for functional, paper-based alternatives to traditional plastic-lined packaging.
High Performance Without Compromise
EraCup Natural features an advanced water-based barrier coating, delivering strong resistance to liquids and grease while maintaining excellent sealability, even on high-speed production lines. This ensures that converters and brands can transition to more sustainable materials without compromising efficiency or product protection.
The board is suitable for a wide variety of applications, including salad and ice cream bowls, snack trays and ready-to-eat meal packaging, offering reliable performance across dry, moist and greasy food types.
By providing an effective alternative to conventional PE-lined boards, EraCup Natural supports the shift towards more sustainable single-use packaging solutions, aligned with evolving regulatory and consumer expectations.
Designed For Circularity
Sustainability is at the core of EraCup Natural. The paperboard is OBA-free, PFAS-free and is fully recyclable and repulpable, helping to reduce reliance on plastic and improve end-of-life outcomes.
Fibre-based packaging is the most recycled packaging material in Europe. In 2023, 87% of all paper and cardboard packaging was recycled, outperforming metallic packaging (77%), glass packaging (75%), and far exceeding that of plastic packaging (42%).1
It is available with FSC and PEFC certification, ensuring the fibre is sourced from responsibly managed forests. In addition, EraCup Natural is certified for recyclability by ATICELCA, recognised by the flustix “Less Plastics Product” label, and certified for both industrial and home compostability by DIN CERTCO.
These credentials reinforce the role of paper-based packaging within a circular economy, where renewable materials are kept in use for as long as possible through recycling and responsible sourcing.
Supporting A More Sustainable Future For Packaging
Lecta’s continued development of innovative barrier papers demonstrates how the industry is responding to the need for lower-impact, high-performance packaging solutions. By expanding the applications of EraCup Natural, Lecta is helping brands and converters move away from fossil-based materials and towards renewable, fibre-based alternatives.
At Two Sides, we welcome innovations like EraCup Natural that highlight the versatility, recyclability and sustainability of paper-based packaging, supporting the transition to more responsible consumption and production.
